PAUREE 24 (Stanza 24)
In this Pauri, Guru Nanak Dev ji is expressing his amazement at the extent of God’s Creation and says that His Creation has no boundaries, nobody can say how big His Creation is, only He Himself knows how big He is.
 
ANT NA SIFTEE KAHEN NA ANT
There is no end to God’s virtues, there is no end to their descriptions.
ant: limit, siftee: praises or virtues, kahen: describe
 
ANT NA KARNAE DEN NA ANT
There is no end to His Creation, there is no end to His gifts to us.
karnae: creation, den: gifts
 
ANT NA VEKHAN SUNAN NA ANT
Endless are His creation’s sights, endless are His nature’s sounds.
vekhan: to see, sunan: to hear
 
ANT NA JAAPAE KIAA MAN MANT
It is impossible to know the limit of His motives.
jaapae: seems or know, man: mind, mant: motive or plan
 
ANT NA JAAPAE KEETA AKAAR
It is impossible to know the limit of the things we see that He has created.
keeta: made, akaar: visible things
 
ANT NA JAAPAE PAARAWAAR
It is impossible to know where His Creation starts and where it ends.
paarawaar: paar is near end, vaar is far end, implies start and finish
 
ANT KAARAN KETE BILLAHE

Many desperately try to find boundaries of His Creation

ant kaaran: to know His limit, billahe: bemoan, implies ‘become desperate’
 
TAA KE ANT NA PAAE JAAHE
but cannot find the His limits.
taa ke ant: His limit, na paae jahe: cannot be found
 
EH ANT NA JAANAE KOE

Nobody knows His limit.

na jaanae koe: nobody knows
 
BAHUTAA KAHIAE BAHUTAA HOE

More we say about Him, more there is yet to say.

bahutaa: more, kahiae: say, hoe: becomes
 
VADAA SAHEB OOCHAA THAAO

My Master (God) is Great and High is His Heavenly Abode.

vadaa: big, great, Saheb: Master, oochaa: high, elevated, thaao: place
 
OOCHE UPAR OOCHAA NAAO

His Name is Higher than the Highest (He is above all).

Naao: His Name, implies God’s attributes
 
EVAD OOCHAA HOVAE KOE TIS OOCHE KO JAANAE SOE
Only someone as Great as Him can know His Greatness
evad: as big, tis: that, jaanae: knows
 
JEVAD AAP JAANAE AAP AAP

Only He Himself knows how Great He is.

jevad: how big, aap: Himself, aap aap: He Himself
 
NANAK NADRI KARMI DAAT II24II

Nanak says, the merciful God bestows His Gifts on us by His Grace.

nadri: merciful God, karmi: by His Grace, daat: gifts

This is a good opportunity to memorize Gurbani, one Pauri at a time. You can concentrate better and enjoy more if you recite bani without looking at the gutka.
